VS Rathore, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Reh-Bhoi district of Meghalaya, said on Wednesday that most of the accidents on the beautiful Umium-Jorabat Expressway were due to driving at high speed and about 50 percent of them are from outside the state.
Drinking alcohol is also a reason
He said that in addition to high speed, driving and driving is also a cause of accidents on the highway. The SP said that the police is in constant touch with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and it has been requested to install speed border board on the highway. Rathore said that the police are also planning to install barricades at the places where the drivers drive at high speed.
Urged to drive carefully
Strict steps are being taken in view of road accidents. SP Rathore said that truck drivers using the expressway are being advised to run according to the lane and strict steps are being taken for safe parking of heavy vehicles and drivers are being requested to drive carefully.
