In Bathinda, Punjab, senior women constable Amandeep Kaur has now been dismissed from service with immediate effect. The constable was also arrested by the police. Heroin was recovered from the constable’s Thar car. Now investigation of his illegal property has also been started.
DSP City-1 Harbans Singh said that ASI Manjit Singh, in-charge of Vardhman Police Outpost, and ANTF team had blockade Badal Road. During this time, a black colored Thar car coming from Dhe Ladli Chowk was indicated to stop. As soon as the car stopped, a young woman came out and tried to escape, but the lady constable and the team caught her. During the search, 17.71 grams of heroin (chitta) kept in polythene in the gear box of the vehicle was recovered.
During interrogation, the woman was identified as Amandeep Kaur resident Chakk Fateh Singh Wala, who was a senior constable in the Punjab Police. She was posted in Mansa and was attached to Bathinda police line. A case was registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.
IG Headquarters Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill said that no employee involved in drug trafficking will be spared under strict instructions by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Taking quick action in this case, SSP Bhagirath Meena of Mansa dismissed Amandeep Kaur under Article 311.
He said that Amneet Kondal, SSP of Bathinda, has been instructed to investigate the matter. Also, investigation of the property of the constable has been started. Which includes one Thar, one Audi, 2 Innova, a Bullet Motorcycle, Kothi of about 2 crore rupees on Ferozepur Road and a plot of lakhs in a colony. If this property is found to be made by drug addiction, then action will be taken under the rules.
According to police sources, Amandeep Kaur was smuggling heroin from Ferozepur for a long time. His Thar car had a Punjab Police sticker, so that no one can stop or search him on the nose.
He was produced in court on Thursday, from where one day police remand was received. During interrogation, his drug smuggling network and relations with several police officers in the past are likely to be revealed.
This incident has come up between the ongoing campaign against the drug of Punjab government, ‘War Drugs against’. IG Gill said that further major action can be taken in this matter. The Bathinda police is now busy searching the wires behind this network. (Report: Kunal Bansal)
