Out of these seven cases of death penalty, six cases were included in the category of raping and murder of girls. In these, the accused were booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and later the Code of India Code (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

In this list, the name of Sanjay Roy, the guilty of RG tax hospital rape and murder case, is not included, because a Kolkata court killed the convict in the case of heinous murder after the rape of a trainee female doctor on duty on August 9, 2023 Did not punish The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.

Apart from this, the case of suspected rape and murder of a 14 -year -old student of class eight is also not included in it. The mutilated body of the teenager was found in the New Town area of ​​Kolkata on February 7 this year. Police arrested a 22-year-old e-rickshaw driver in this case.

The last judicial hanging in West Bengal took place two decades ago. Dhananjay Chatterjee, a security guard of a residential building in South Kolkata, was hanged in Alipur Jail just before August 15 in the case of rape and murder of a 16 -year -old student. This crime was carried out in March 1990.

These cases of heinous crime were sentenced to death between September 2024 and February 2025. A Poxo court in Siliguri, West Bengal sentenced Mohammad Abbas to death on 7 September 2023. She was found guilty of raping and murdering a 16 -year -old girl going to school in Matigara area in August 2023.

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) welcomed the decision and wrote on its social media platform X, ‘This quick punishment is a proof of the efforts of the West Bengal Police which ensured justice within a year.
