The latest annual report of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has revealed that 7,072 corruption cases related to CBI investigation are pending in various courts across the country. The matter of concern is that 2,660 cases out of total pending cases are more than 10 years old.
According to the report, 379 of these cases have been stuck for more than 20 years, while 2,281 cases are pending between 10 and 20 years. As of 31 December 2024, 1,506 cases were pending for less than 3 years, 791 cases between 3 and 5 years and 2,115 cases were pending between 5 and 10 years.
13,100 appeals and amendment petitions of CBI and accused are pending in the High Court and Supreme Court. Of these, 606 appeals have been pending for more than 20 years and 1,227 appeals are pending between 15 and 20 years.
In 2024, conviction 69%, 2% less than 2023
A total of 644 cases were settled in 2024. Of these, in 392 cases, conviction, 154 convictions, 21 accused in 21 and 77 cases were settled due to other reasons. According to the report, the conviction rate in 2024 was 69.14%, while in 2023 it was 71.47%.

‘Special courts for hearing of NIA cases’: Supreme Court said- otherwise the undertrary will be forced to bail the accused
The Supreme Court on July 18 said that a special court and separate infrastructure is necessary for early hearing of NIA (National Investigation Agency) cases. If not made soon, the courts will be forced to bail the accused.
