MCG registered its name in the record book on Monday, the fifth and last day of the fourth Test match between India and Australia. The all-time record of maximum number of spectators reaching the stadium in this Test was set. According to Fox Cricket, during the first session on the fifth day, a record 350,700 spectators reached the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the last 5 days. According to Cricket Australia, this is the highest attendance of any Test match in Australia.

The number of viewers may increase further
MCG wrote on its official X account, ‘We have officially surpassed the record set in 1936/37 when Australia was facing England. A test match which lasted for 6 days. Adam Gilchrist, who is commenting for Fox Sports, said that the number of viewers may increase further till the last minute. On the fifth and final day of the fourth Test, 51,371 spectators came to the ground, breaking the record of 350,534 spectators set in the 1937 Ashes series when Don Bradman was at the peak of his career. After lunch the viewership crossed 60,000. Cricket Australia said, ‘At present the viewership number on the fifth day is 51371.
Till now, a total of 350700 spectators have been present during this test, which is a record so far. Earlier, in the six-day Test against England in 1937, 350534 spectators had gathered. The fourth Test between India and Australia is the second most watched Test at the ground. Earlier in 1999, a total of 465,000 spectators had come to watch the Eden Garden Test between India and Pakistan. 87,242 spectators gathered at MCG on the first day while 85,147 spectators came on the second day, 83,073 spectators came on the third day and 43,867 spectators came on the fourth day.
