Aadhaar Card Voter ID Linking Update | EC UIDAI Guidelines | Preparation to link voter card to Aadhaar: Decision in the meeting of Election Commission-Home Ministry; Expert discussion on the process will start soon

The Election Commission on Tuesday held a meeting with the Union Home Secretary, Legislative Secretary, MEITY Secretary and CEO of UIDAI on the issue of voter card-base seeding.

Experts of Election Commission and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will soon start technical counseling on linking Aadhaar-Voter Card. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Election Commission met on Tuesday, in which the decision was taken.

The commission says that the work of connecting the voter card with Aadhaar will be done as per the instructions of the existing law and the Supreme Court. For this, technical counseling between Election Commission and UIDAI experts will start soon.

The Election Commission said that according to Article 326 of the Constitution, the right to vote can only be given to the citizen of India, but the Aadhaar only establishes the identity of the individual. Therefore, it was decided that all laws would be followed to link the voter photo identity card to Aadhaar.
