Ranya rao case: Kannada actress Ranya Rao, arrested in the case of gold smuggling, has alleged that the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) officials slapped them several times, did not give them food and forced them to sign the vacant documents. In a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI, Ranya described himself as innocent and said that he has been implicated in a false case.
Ranya, daughter of a police officer, was arrested at Bangalore Airport with gold worth Rs 12.56 crore. In a letter sent through the Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agarhara Jail, Ranya claimed that he was arrested inside the aircraft and the DRI had taken him into custody without giving him a chance to clarify.
’10-15 times slapped ‘
He also claimed that DRI officials threatened and attacked him again and again. The officials forced them to sign the statement prepared on their behalf. However, he denied this. The actress said that she was finally pressurized and forced to sign about 50-60 types and 40 empty white pages.
Ranya said, “Ever since I was detained, I was assaulted until I was produced in court. The officers I can identify me 10-15 times. Despite repeated assault, I refused to sign the statements prepared on their behalf.”
In the letter, Ranya wrote, “Under excessive pressure and physical attack, I was forced to sign 50-60 typed pages prepared by DRI officials and about 40 empty white pages.”
Court refused to grant bail
A few days after the arrest, a picture of Ranya went viral in custody, in which she looked stressed and had black spots under her eyes. At the same time, a special court of Bengaluru refused to grant him bail. He is currently in judicial custody for 15 days. Ranya has claimed that her father is not involved in the case.
He also said that on March 3 from 6.45 pm to 7 pm on March 4, he was not allowed to sleep intentionally during custody and was not allowed to eat. Questioning the validity of the case registered against him, Ranya claimed that no gold was recovered from him.
