Aditya Thackeray has protested against playing matches with Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 and has demanded intervention from the central government. He has described it as an insult to national sentiments.
In his letter, Aditya Thackeray, in his letter, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement ‘blood and water not flowing together’, said that when the country is facing terrorist attacks, playing cricket with Pakistan is an insult to national sentiments. He especially mentioned the recent Pahalgam terror attack, in which many innocent people were killed. Thackeray alleged that this decision of BCCI has been taken under the greed of economic benefits, which is against the honor of the armed forces and the nation.
Thackeray also said that even though his party may be in opposition, it has always been united on the issue of national interest and security of the country. Citing Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and former Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, he said that unless Pakistan stops supporting terrorism, no relation should be kept with him.
The controversy deepened when AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi also opposed the match and questioned the government in Parliament that when business and diplomatic relations are closed, how can cricket be played. Opposition parties say that this decision is playing with the sentiments of the country. On the other hand, BCCI has not yet issued any official statement on this issue.
