Bangladesh has deployed warships and patrol helicopters in its marine area. The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus has taken this decision to protect the precious fish species Hilsa from being caught illegally during her reproduction period. Actually, Hisla fish returns to rivers from the Bay of Bengal to lay eggs every year. Hilsa, who looks like hering, is the national fish of Bangladesh. The people of West Bengal of India like this fish very much in food.
According to the Eurasian Times report, Bangladesh Army officials have said that they have banned fishing for the safety of the breeding areas of Hilsa for 4 to 25 October i.e. about three weeks. According to the statement, 17 warships and patrol helicopters of Navy have been deployed to protect Hilsa fishes. However, a patrol campaign in the sea from Bangladesh Navy can increase tension for India.
How much is the price of Hilsa fish?
Crores of people in Bangladesh depend on Hilsa fish. The price of this fish is 2200 taka in Dhaka i.e. 18.40 US dollars per kg. According to the army statement, warships and sea patrol helicopters are monitoring 24 hours to prevent fishermen infiltration.
Let us know that Indian fishermen catch fish in the salt water of the Ganges river and its huge delta, which fulfills the demand of 10 crore people of Kolkata and West Bengal. The concern of Bangladesh is that if the fishermen caught the Hilsa fishes before the demand, then gradually the existence of its national fish can come in crisis.
What is diplomacy about India-Bangladesh Hilsa?
Hilsa diplomacy has been very famous between India and Bangladesh. However, after the collapse of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Dhaka, Mohammad Yunus became the head of the interim government, after which the relationship between the two countries has reduced the warmth. Despite this, Bangladesh had allowed India to export 1,200 tons of Hilsa fish before Durga Puja this year.
