The initial investigation report of Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been revealed in the initial investigation report of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed on June 12 in Ahmedabad. According to the report, Air India had changed the Throttle Control Module (TCM) of this aircraft twice in the last six years. First time in 2019 and second time in 2023.
What is Throttle Control Module?
TCM is an important flight system, which also includes fuel control switches. These are the same switches that have now come to the center in the investigation of the accident, as this fuel control switch suddenly stopped shortly after flying from Ahmedabad on June 12, after which this accident happened.
There was a change on Boeing’s instructions
According to sources, the decision to replace the TCM was taken after a instruction issued by Boeing in 2019. Following this directive, Air India changed the TCM of Dreamliner VT-ANB in 2019 and 2023.
What does Aaib report say?
The preliminary report of AAIB mentions that TCM was replaced twice, but no direct connection with the functioning of the fuel control switch has been found. However, the investigation also states that the sudden closure of fuel control switch at the time of the accident remains an important investigation.
Questions raised on investigation of Air India accident
Airline Pilots Association of India (ALPAI) has questioned the investigation process regarding the Air India aircraft accident. The organization has said that the attitude of the investigation has been tilted towards the mistake of the pilot from the beginning, which can make the investigation biased.
Alpai, demanding an investigation on a fair and facts, said that it is necessary to investigate the technical aspects before reaching a conclusion.
