Chief Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai and other judges of the Supreme Court expressed their deep condolences to the families affected by the AIR India aircraft going to London on Thursday (June 12, 2025) in Ahmedabad.
A release issued by the Supreme Court said, “The Chief Justice of India and his other fellow judges of the Supreme Court and officials of the Registry today express deep condolences to the families affected by the tragic air accident in Ahmedabad.”
Chief Justice Gawai also expressed his concern for the residents of BiJ Medical College, where the Air India plane going to London crashed. This accident has caused heavy damage to the buildings of the campus.
The CJI said, “Our condolences and prayers are with him in this difficult time.” The Air India aircraft going to London crashed in a residential area a few minutes after flying from Ahmedabad Airport on Thursday afternoon. The aircraft had 242 people, including two pilots and 10 crew members. Many people are feared to be killed in the accident.
The aircraft crashed near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport near the residential quarters of the city’s Civil Hospital and BJ Medical College and Nursing Staff in Meghani Nagar near the International Airport.
The Associated Press had earlier reported the death of all the 242 people aboard the aircraft, but the matter of a passenger being alive has come to light. This passenger came to India to meet its relatives from Britain. It is difficult to identify the dead bodies, so the Gujarat government has appealed to the families of the people on the plane to give DNA samples.
Gujarat government official said, ‘BJ. DNA testing has been arranged in the medical college, so the aircraft is requested to submit their samples to the passengers’ families and close people, especially their parents and children so that the victims can be identified as soon as possible.
At the time of the incident, the plane fell on the roof of the mess of a medical college near the airport. At that time, the students living in the hostel were having lunch in the mess. Some local people are also reported to have died in the accident.
