Congress has released another list of candidates for Delhi Assembly elections. The party has fielded Alka Lamba against Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Atishi. Congress has given ticket to Alka Lamba from Kalkaji seat. Actually, on the very first day of the year 2025, Alka Lamba had visited Kalkaji temple. After this, discussions started on social media that the President of National Mahila Congress can contest elections from Kalkaji. It happened exactly the same. Congress gave ticket to Alka Lamba against Delhi CM and sitting MLA Atishi from Kalkaji assembly seat.
After giving ticket to Alka Lamba on Kalkaji seat, now the election here is going to be very interesting. Because, BJP also wants former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri to contest elections from Kalkaji seat. If this happens, then a fierce competition is expected between the three giants and the political battle will become very difficult for Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.
Congress fielded strong candidates against AAP
Congress has so far announced the names of 48 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. Congress has decided to field big faces against the stalwarts of Aam Aadmi Party, under which former MP Sandeep Dixit has been given ticket against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the New Delhi Assembly seat. Apart from this, Farhad Suri has been made the candidate from Jangpura seat against former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Alka Lamba was the MLA from Chandni Chowk Assembly between 2015 and 2020, but this time Congress has given ticket to Mudit Agarwal, son of former MP JP Agarwal, on this seat. Alka Lamba had contested the 2020 elections from Chandni Chowk assembly on Congress ticket but stood third.
Political journey started from Delhi University
Alka Lamba started her political journey as a student leader in Delhi University. In the year 2003, Alka Lamba had contested elections on Congress ticket from Motinagar assembly constituency against former BJP stalwart Chief Minister Madanlal Khurana. Although she lost to Khurana, she made a lot of headlines because of challenging the Delhi stalwart.
After being associated with the Congress for more than 20 years, she resigned from the party on 26 December 2014 and joined the Aam Aadmi Party. In February 2015, Lamba was elected to the Delhi Assembly from Chandni Chowk, Delhi. She formally left AAP in September 2019 and returned to the Congress party, citing disrespect within the party. After this, Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal had disqualified him from the legislature on September 19 on the grounds of defection.
