Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday clarified that all the party leaders are united and working together amidst the dispute between Congress and Shashi Tharoor and the controversy of the central government after the central government’s praise by Shashi Tharoor.
Rahul Gandhi posted a picture of a press conference of Kerala Congress leaders on Facebook after a meeting with the top leadership of the party in Delhi on 28 February. He wrote with the photo, we are united.
During this meeting, the strategy of Kerala assembly elections to be held in 2026 was also discussed. Giving strict message to all the leaders, the Congress leadership said that strict disciplinary action will be taken against those who will make a statement from the party line.
The meeting was attended by Shashi Tharoor, Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, General Secretary KC Venugopal, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, Kerala Congress President K Sudhakaran, Congress Legislature Party leader VD Satisan in Kerala Assembly and Kerala in -charge of the party were present.
According to sources, in this meeting which lasted about three hours, Rahul Gandhi clearly said that all the leaders should be very cautious about the political strategy and should not say anything that is against the party line.
The meeting was called when Shashi Tharoor praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that if the Congress does not need his services, then he also has “other options”.
Recently, Shashi Tharoor, MP from Thiruvananthapuram, had also praised Kerala’s Pinarayi Vijayan government’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and policies for simplifying government processes, which the Congress leadership was angry. Tharoor also welcomed Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Washington in January and a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. The Congress had reacted strongly to this tour.
Rahul Gandhi had a meeting with him in a closed room in Delhi about a week ago amid reports of Shashi Tharoor being sidelined in the party. However, Shashi Tharoor has rejected speculation of leaving the Congress, but CPI (M) has indicated that if Tharoor leaves the Congress, he is ready to welcome him. Senior CPI (M) leader Thomas Aizac said that if Shashi Tharoor leaves the Congress, he will not be orphans in Kerala politics.
Aizac said that if Tharoor clarifies his position, then there is no problem for CPI (M) to adopt them. Our party has already welcomed many Congress leaders. It is no less than a miracle that Tharoor has remained in the Congress till now.
