During the Mahakumbh Mela, the Allahabad High Court has reprimanded the Uttar Pradesh government for not getting compensation for the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede on the day of Mauni Amavasya on January 29 on the day of Mauni Amavasya. The court’s holiday bench has termed the government’s attitude as ‘unstable’ and ‘indifferent to the suffering of citizens’. A division bench of Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Sandeep Jain made strict remarks while hearing the petition of Uday Pratap Singh.

52 -year -old Sunaina Devi, wife of petitioner Uday Pratap Singh, died of serious injuries in the Kumbh stampede. The special thing is that the body was neither a post -mortem nor the family was informed when and in what condition the woman was brought to the hospital. The court, considering it a serious lapse, questioned the functioning of government institutions. The bench clarified that when the government announced compensation, its time -bound and dignified distribution becomes the traditional duty of the state.

The court said that there was no mistake of the citizens, and it is the duty of the state in such tragedies to ensure the care and assistance of the victim families. The court directed the medical institutions, district administration and other concerned officials to file a detailed affidavit in the case. This should include information according to the date of all the bodies and patients coming under their control till the end of the fair from 28 January.

Along with this, details of the doctors have also been sought who treated the injured or declared him dead. The court has also directed the state government to submit details of all the claims received and pending related to compensation. The court also said that the state government acts as a trustee of citizens and should show sensitivity towards the victims.
