Tuesday, 5 August 2025 is going to prove to be a milestone for Amit Shah in many ways. One, 6 years 64 days, by breaking the record of LK Advani, who was on the post of Home Minister, Amit Shah is going to make a record of staying in this post for the longest time. Secondly, there is also a discussion that soon the Modi government is going to give the status of full state to Jammu and Kashmir. If this happens, it will also be announced by Amit Shah, as he declared Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as Union Territory while announcing the over on 5 August 2019.
In fact, on Sunday, both PM Modi and Amit Shah met President Murmu separately. The second tomorrow is 5 August. On 5 August 2019, Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir was canceled and made Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh a separate union territory. On Tuesday i.e. tomorrow is 5 August. In such a situation, the meeting between Amit Shah and the President has intensified the political stir. One big reason is that such meetings are usually not at all. It is not normal for these two leaders to meet the President with a difference of one day and a few hours. The question arises whether the government is going to bring a big bill in Parliament, which PM Modi and the Home Minister have reached to inform the President. This is the reason why many speculations are being made.
Why is there a discussion to give full state status to Jammu and Kashmir?
The discussion of giving full state status to Jammu and Kashmir has been going on since the cancellation of Article 370 and 35A on 5 August 2019. Ever since Jammu and Kashmir was removed and divided into two union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Since then, the demand for the restoration of full state status is being demanded by local leaders, parties. Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised in Parliament in 2019 that Jammu and Kashmir will be restored to the full state status at the appropriate time. After that the Government of India has also spoken many times that it will restore the status of full state when the time comes. The Supreme Court also ordered the restoration of state status in 2023.
In fact, as a union territory, the government of Jammu and Kashmir has limited powers. The Lieutenant Governor and the Central Government are controlled in important matters like police, law and order, and all India services. Parties like National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress have been constantly demanding the status of full state. NC leader Omar Abdullah won 42 seats in the 2024 assembly elections by creating it a major agenda of his government.
To give full state status, amendment to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 is necessary, for which the final approval of President Draupadi Murmu will be needed after the approval of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. After their approval, Jammu and Kashmir will get full state status when the notification is issued. On Sunday, it is being speculated by the President’s separate meeting with the PM and the Home Minister that this meeting is not for Jammu and Kashmir. It is very likely that on the sixth year of the cancellation of Article 370 tomorrow, the government should announce the restoration of state status to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rumors of making Jammu and Kashmir a separate state
Due to the Jammu region being Hindu -dominated and the Muslim -dominated of the Kashmir Valley, it has often been discussed whether it is possible to give both the status of separate state. In this context, some people see the demand to make Jammu a separate state as regional empowerment.
Those who are in favor of giving separate state status to Jammu, they argue that this will better address the specific needs and identity of the region. Jammu will give Hindus a respectable identity and development opportunities, which is not possible in solidarity with Kashmir. Kashmiri origin journalist @Aartitikoo writes on X that …
In Jammu and Kashmir these days, the rumor is inundated that the Central Government can give state status to this union territory again, ie tomorrow, the state’s status of Article 370.
And what is even more shocking – that is being said in the market of rumors that Kashmir and Jammu will be separated and made two independent states.
If any of these things go out correct, then it will be a very devastating step. This will basically be like implementing the Dixon Plan-that is, the division of Jammu and Kashmir on religious grounds, which will indirectly hand over the Muslim-majority region to Pakistan.
It is not possible to keep any Muslim -dominated region bordering India unaffected by the Pakistan Army and its jihadi terrorists.
If it is argued that the Hindu-dominated Jammu has been deprived of political power in proportion to its population, and the Muslim-dominated Kashmiri leadership has discriminated against him-then it is clear that Iqbal, Jinnah and now General Aseem Munir’s two-nation theory has got success in India, then it is Jammu and Kashmir.
And if today they succeed in Jammu and Kashmir, then tomorrow they will be successful in other parts of India-whether it is tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or after years.
The foundation of India rests on the ideas of its ancient pluralistic philosophy, equality and freedom. The division of Jammu and Kashmir on religious grounds will destroy India as an ideology. This will be a serious and tragedy but a serious and tragedy.
Not only Kashmir, as Home Minister, Amit Shah puts a reforms of reforms
Amit Shah as Home Minister, during his tenure, has left a mark of his impressive tenure in other areas of the country besides Jammu and Kashmir. From 2019 till now (till August 2025), under his leadership, the Ministry of Home Affairs has taken many important steps in security, administrative efficiency, and social reforms.
-The conclusion of the union 370 ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which revealed new possibilities of uniformity and development in the region. For the first time in 2024, assembly elections were held as a union territory, in which 60% polling promoted peace and public participation.
Shah has also contributed to the establishment of peace in the North-East. It was a very big decision to relax AFSPA. In 2024, Amit Shah announced the removal of the Armed Forces (AFSPA) in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, which restored peace and trust in the region.
In 2020, the agreement signed to solve the Bodo problem, curbing extremism activities, which led to the promotion of development.

The work of fixing the deadline for the elimination of Naxalism will be recorded in the history of India as the biggest success of Shah.
Transfer of Indian Penal Code (IPC): In 2023, the law was enacted to replace IPC, CRPC, and Evidence Act from the Indian Code of Justice, Indian Civil Protection Code and Indian Evidence Act respectively. Those who were coming from the British Raj.
-The Nagger Amendment Act (CAA): On the CAA implemented in 2019, Shah launched a nationwide awareness campaign, which was effectively implemented in 2024.
