India First National Cooperative University Tribhuvan: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of ‘Tribhuvan’, the first National Cooperative University of India in Anand district of Gujarat on Saturday (July 5, 2025).
Amit Shah, while addressing the program, targeted the Congress fiercely. He said that the leader of the Congress party did not even know that Tribhuvan Das ji was the leader of the Congress party, not our party.
‘Government has taken 60 initiatives in the last 4 years’
He further said that when the Prime Minister decided that the Ministry of Cooperation should be established for the economic prosperity of crores of poor and after that the Ministry of Cooperation was formed. I met people associated with many cooperatives. How to reach cooperative movement to every corner of the country, what should be planned for it. In the last 4 years, the government took 60 initiatives.
Amit Shah said that these have been taken initiative to increase the income of the cooperative movement, to increase the income of the farmer, increase the income of women and youth. He informed that 40 lakh workers were associated with the cooperative movement and 30 crore people joined the cooperative movement.
‘Brother nephew will end’
Shah said that there was no arrangement for training of its spinal cooperative employees and members of the committees. Now those who have trained after becoming university will get jobs. Due to this, the brother who was alleged to be nephew in cooperatives will end. Now the one who comes out after studying will get a job. Tribhuvan Cooperative University will remove all the deficiencies in the cooperative sector.
The university is named Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, one of the people who played the leading role in the cooperative movement in India and the main role in the establishment of Amul. He was born on 22 October 1903 in Kheda in Anand and died on 3 June 1994.
20 lakh personnel will get training
The government statement said that the purpose of Tribhuvan Cooperative University (TSU) is to prepare professional and trained manpower to meet the growing needs of the cooperative sector. In the next five years, it will train about 20 lakh personnel of primary agricultural loan committees (PACS), dairy, fisheries etc.
According to the statement, the university will also provide multi-disciplinary programs, including PhD, Managerial Degree, Diploma at supervisory level and certificate at operational level. It said that TSU will try to connect more than 200 existing cooperatives in the next four years to create a national network.
