Jammu kashmir law review: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will review the new criminal laws implemented in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (February 18). Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will also be present in this meeting. According to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs, the meeting will be held in the North Block in Delhi where the Center and the top officials of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir will also participate. The purpose of this meeting is to know how these new laws have been implemented in the state and are any challenges coming out.
From July 1 last year, the Indian Code, Indian Civil Protection Code and Indian Evidence Act were implemented across the country. These new laws replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) of the British rule and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872. Home Minister Amit Shah has already reviewed the implementation of new laws in many states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Now its status will be assessed in Jammu and Kashmir, which will be known to what extent they have been followed and what improvement is needed there.
Effective implementation of new criminal laws will be discussed today
Law and order in Jammu and Kashmir comes directly under the central government. However, CM Omar Abdullah has also been invited to this meeting. It is worth noting that in 2019, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were abolished and divided into two separate union territories. Since then, there have been many major changes in security and administratively in Jammu and Kashmir. It will be clear from this meeting that how effectively new criminal laws have been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir and what can be improved in further implementation.
