New Delhi. All -rounder Angelo Mathews’s farewell ended on a Test draw. Mathews could not play a big innings in his last Test match. In this way, he said goodbye to his 16 -year Test career. Bangladesh was deprived of a barely won victory on foreign soil. And the first cricket test against Sri Lanka was left on a draw on the last day on Saturday. Due to rain, the game remained long and in the morning session, only 80 minutes of game could be held. The Bangladeshi team had a growth of 251 runs and a 50 -over window was possible but the visiting team adopted the strategy of defensive game.

The focus of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hussain Shanto was on his second century in the match which overshadowed the team. He declared the innings for 285 runs for 6 wickets. But by then about an hour’s precious time was wasted. Bangladesh has so far been able to win the same win in 27 Tests in Sri Lanka and he lost this golden opportunity. Mathews was the captain of the Sri Lankan team that won the series in 2014 in England and has played 119 Tests for the country.

Mathews finished his career as the third highest run -scorer in Test cricket for Sri Lanka. He scored 8,214 runs in 119 matches at an average of 44.4. Which includes 16 centuries and 49 fifties. Only Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene have scored more Test runs for the country.
