Controversies had started before the start of the Test series between India and England. What changed the name of Pataudi Trophy, many stalwarts stood against it. The latest name in this list is Farooq Engineer.
Farooq Engineer’s statement on India-England series
Birmingham: Farrukh Engineer, who played 46 Tests and five ODIs for India between 1961 and 1975, has given a big statement about the current Test series. Farrukh Engineer, a close friend of the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, said that England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) renamed the Test series trophy to wrong.
Farooq Engineer is also disappointed with this decision, but with this he also feels that the achievements of Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson are undisputed. Tendulkar approached ECB, after which the domestic board decided to give Pataudi medal to the captain of the series winning team.
The engineer said, ‘The achievements of Tendulkar and Anderson cannot be questioned. There are two aspects of this story. He has named the medal after Pataudi, which is a very thoughtful decision.
The Pataudi family has a deep connection with India-England cricket. Both Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansoor captained India and both played county cricket in England. India is 0–1 in the five-match series after losing in the first Test match played at Headingley.
