New Delhi. Jasprit Bumrah needs to be very cautious on his back injury. Where his surgery has been done, if he gets hurt again there, it can prove to be his career ending. New Zealand veteran Shane Bond has given this warning. Bond is currently the bowling coach of the IPL team Rajasthan Royals.
Jasprit Bumrah was injured during the Sydney Test this year. They are currently rehabited at BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. It is not yet clear how long they will fit or play in IPL 2025. After surgery in March 2023, he has been away from cricket for so many days for the first time.
Need to manage Bumrah’s workload
Shane Bond spoke to Cricinfo on Jaspreet Bumrah’s injury. He said that Bumrah’s workload needs to be managed carefully so that he does not get hurt again. This pacery of New Zealand underwent back surgery at the age of 29, after which he played more for 5 years. Bumrah’s surgery was also done at this age. Perhaps this is the reason why bonds understand the danger very well that the re -injury to the surgery area can prove to be so dangerous. He also explained how to prevent this.
Playing Test after T20 match is dangerous
Shane Bond, who has dismissed Ricky Ponting 7 times in ODIs, said, ‘The most difficult challenge for the fast bowlers is to change themselves from one format to another. When a bowler plays a direct Test match with T20, his body is not ready for this change. But if the same bowler goes to Test match from ODI, then it is prepared to a great extent. Shane Bond explains this and says that if a bowler plays three T20 matches a week, travels two days and practice two days, then he bowls an average of 20 overs in seven days. If he goes to play a Test match next week, he will have to bowl about 40 overs, for which his body is not habitual. If the same bowler plays Tests in the second week after playing three ODIs in a week, then he will be ready to a great extent.
It is necessary to give rest after 2 consecutive Tests
Shane Bond said, ‘If you ask me, I would not like to see Bumrah playing three consecutive Test matches. I would like him to give rest in a match after two consecutive Tests. If they play Test matches after IPL, then their workload will have to be taken care of. Let us know that the Indian team has to go on a tour of England in June, where it will play 5 Test matches.
