Himanta biswa sarma apology: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Bishwas Sarma has apologized to the country for the statement of the MP. CM Sarma said that he felt ’embarrassed’ on the fact that an MP from his state said during discussion on the Waqf Bill in Parliament that Muslims did not get permission to offer Eid prayers on the streets.
CM Sarma said at a press conference of the cabinet meeting, “People of Assam also do not want to offer prayers on the streets, because there are beautiful mosques in the state.” Sarma was apparently referring to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, although he did not directly name.
Gogoi had mentioned the statement of Muslims
During the discussion on the bill, Gogoi had criticized the government for allegedly stopping Muslims from offering Eid prayers on the streets and questioned the BJP’s commitment to minority rights.
CM Sarma said, ‘People from all over the country are calling me about this. We are embarrassed and as Chief Minister I apologize to people across the country. ”He said that there was no demand from Muslims that they want to offer prayers on the streets. He alleged that the comment of the MP has led to the notion that only one community contributed to India’s freedom struggle. Sarma said, “The MP highlighted the role of only one community. There was no mention of Mahatma Gandhi, Gopinath Bordoloi, Subhash Chandra Bose or other prominent people.
People of Assam trust in PM Modi- CM Sarma
When asked about the BJP’s possibilities in the Panchayat elections to be held in two phases on May 2 and 7 in the state, CM Sarma said, “It will be good in all elections-Panchayat, Rabha Hasong Parishad, Bodoland Regional Council and Assembly Elections, because the people of Assam have great faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
He said, “The extremist statement made by an Assam MP in Parliament has made us sad and we are feeling ashamed of it.” Sharma said that the people of Assam “will teach such people a lesson when the time comes.”
