AIMIM Speaker and MP from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticized the closure of slaughterhouses and meat shops on Independence Day and described this move of municipal officials as insensitive and unconstitutional. The Hyderabad MP criticized the orders issued by several municipal corporations on ‘X’ on Wednesday (13 August 2025) and questioned the relationship between meat and Independence Day.
Owaisi posted, “It seems that many municipal corporations across India have ordered the closure of slaughterhouses and meat shops on August 15. Unfortunately GHMC has given a similar order. It is insensitive and unconstitutional. The President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslims said,” What is the relationship between meat eating and celebrating Independence Day? ” 99 percent of the people of Telangana eat meat. These meat restrictions violate people’s freedom, privacy, livelihood, culture, nutrition and right to religion. “

Order to keep meat shops closed
GHMC has already issued orders to close meat shops on the occasion of Independence Day and Janmashtami. The Municipal Corporation has issued this order under Section 533 (B) of the GHMC Act, 1955. The GHMC commissioner has sent this order to Police Commissioners of Hyderabad, Sibrabad and Rachakonda.

All veterinary officers of GHMC, assistant directors (veterinary), sub -directors (veterinary), and veterinary sections have been instructed to ensure strict adherence to the order. Apart from this, orders have also been issued to all zonal commissioners and additional commissioners of GHMC, Managing Director of Telangana State Sheep and Goat Development Cooperative Union and Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department. Please tell that municipal officials in Mumbai have also issued similar orders, which have been opposed by the opposition party.
