Ashwin’s claim in CSK, comments were made on the contract of Dewald Brevis, Chennai Super Kings clarified

New Delhi. Chennai Super Kings have responded to allegations of contracting South African batsman Dewald Bravis for the 2025 edition of the tournament by violating IPL rules. CSK says that he contracted the South African batsman as per rules. Former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is currently in the CSK team. He indicated on his YouTube channel that the five -time IPL champion team was willing to make additional payments to take advantage of the services of Brevis, after which the controversy broke out.

CSK said in a statement, ‘Chennai Super Kings clarify that the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 during the process of contracting Dawld Bravis as a substantial player was the action by the franchise during the IPL rules and guidelines. In April 2025, Dewald Bravis was contracted at a league fee of Rs 2.2 crore as a substantial player of injured Gurjapneet Singh. Gurjapneet Singh was purchased at the IPL 2025 player auction held in Saudi Arabia at a price of Rs 2.2 crore.

According to the current rules of IPL, the contract amount of a substitute player should not be more than the price of the player he will replace. Brevis could not be sold in the auction and CSK paid them Rs 2.2 crore above Rs 75 lakhs to contract them on 18 April. Twenty -six -year -old fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh of Tamil Nadu did not get a chance to play any match before a sudden injury in the last session.

CSK said Brevis was contracted as per Article 6.6 under the IPL player guidelines 2025-27, especially under the ‘Replacement Players’ (Places Players) Rules. The controversy began when Ashwin said that CSK was ready to pay more to contract Brevis as some other IPL teams had not been fruitful due to the conversation price with this South African batsman.
