CSK said in a statement, ‘Chennai Super Kings clarify that the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 during the process of contracting Dawld Bravis as a substantial player was the action by the franchise during the IPL rules and guidelines. In April 2025, Dewald Bravis was contracted at a league fee of Rs 2.2 crore as a substantial player of injured Gurjapneet Singh. Gurjapneet Singh was purchased at the IPL 2025 player auction held in Saudi Arabia at a price of Rs 2.2 crore.
CSK said Brevis was contracted as per Article 6.6 under the IPL player guidelines 2025-27, especially under the ‘Replacement Players’ (Places Players) Rules. The controversy began when Ashwin said that CSK was ready to pay more to contract Brevis as some other IPL teams had not been fruitful due to the conversation price with this South African batsman.
