The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has removed 17 historical monuments located in seven states and union territories of the country from the list of ‘national importance’, as these 17 monuments were missing from decades and could not be found even after efforts to find. According to ASI’s gadget notifications, this decision has been taken under Section 35 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Site and Remains Act, 1958.
A draft notification was issued by the Ministry of Culture on 8 March 2024 to remove these monuments from the list. Also, suggestions or objections were sought from the general public within 60 days. Now because no objection was received by the scheduled deadline, the ministry has now officially delivered these monuments.

Delicious monuments include many small historical places of Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. These include two Kos Minar of Gurugram and Karnal, Barakhabha cemetery of Delhi and inch dome with Kotla Mubarakpur, two sites in Baran and Jaipur in Rajasthan, Lucknow, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Jhansi, Ghazipur and Banda more than 10 graves, inscriptions and remains of temples.
Two major monuments of national importance
On the other hand, ASI has listed two new sites as a memorial of national importance. The first of these is ‘ISCO painted Shell shelter’, which is located in Barkagaon area of ​​Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. This place is 12 thousand years old from today and is known for the cave painting and rock of the middle stone period. The second monument is the ‘Swapneshwar Mahadev Temple’ in Banapur in Khoradha district of Odisha, a medieval Lord Shiva temple, whose construction time is believed to be between 10th and 13th centuries.
‘The traditional Kalinga style architecture of Odisha appears in the Swapneshwar Mahadev Temple. Even though this temple is not as grand as Konark or Lingaraja temple, its local religious importance and structural state make it important from historical and archaeological point of view.
A major temple of Kerala also included
Along with this, ASI has also invited suggestions from people to list ‘Manjalungal Tali Mahadev Temple’ located in Palakkad district of Kerala as a national monument. The temple is located in the Pattambi region of Onglur and this Shiva temple is deeply connected to local religious traditions and social beliefs. The architectural style of the temple is based on the traditional architecture of Kerala, including wooden structures, tile roofs.
