Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma on Friday (June 20, 2025) alleged that more than 5,000 Facebook accounts have become active to promote and support the Assam unit of Congress and most of these accounts operate from Islamic countries.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said that last month 5000 Facebook accounts have been active in which posts related to Iran, Palestine and Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus were posted. He informed that these accounts are being investigated and 2092 accounts have been audited. & Nbsp;
Himant Biswa Sarma alleged at a press conference that these accounts are active in 47 countries and the highest number of active accounts are in Bangladesh and Pakistan. Himant Bisw Sarma says that these accounts are from the same community who handles the handle and from his post it seems that they are Islamic fundamentalists.
Himant Bisw Sarma said that in the audit it was found that 68 of these 2092 Facebook accounts are Bangladeshi, 23 Pakistani, 2 Palestinians, 6 Brazil, one Canada and Colombia, 6 Egypt, 6 Egypt, 54 France, 4 Germany, 16 Indonesia, 8 Iraq, 8 from Kuwait, three Italy, 88 Kuwait, a leib Four Albania and two Facebook accounts are from Australia. & Nbsp;
Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that these accounts have been focusing specially on the activities of the page of a special leader of the Assam unit of the Congress and the state unit of the party for the last one month. Himant Biswa Sarma said, ‘It is surprising that he does not comment or like Rahul Gandhi or even the post of Indian National Congress. They only focus on a special leader and Assam unit of Congress. ‘
Apart from Assam, they post Islamic fundamentalist materials including Professor Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to Palestine, Iran and Bangladesh. However, the Chief Minister did not name any leader, but it seems that he was referring to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi who was appointed as the chairman of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee in May last month.
Hamant Bisw Sarma said, ‘He has no concern with the change in party leadership, but this incident has happened last month only.’ He said, ‘There is a lot of foreign intervention in Assam politics before the 2026 assembly elections and this is happening for the first time.’ Describing it as the issue of national security, the Chief Minister said that the central government has been made aware of this.
