Ayushman Bharat Scheme will start in Odisha from April 1, about 70 lakh people will get benefit

The Odisha government has decided to launch Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) in the state from April 1. Along with Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the current Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana will also continue.

Wednesday (March 12, 2025) This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at night. To launch this scheme, programs will be organized in all 1,438 primary health centers in the state. An official release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said that a large -scale awareness campaign will be launched to promote and disseminate the scheme.

Earlier, an agreement was signed between the State Government and the National Health Authority in New Delhi on 13 January for the implementation of Ayushman Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in Odisha. Both Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana will benefit more than 1.03 lakh families in the state.

An official said, ‘Both these schemes will be jointly implemented in Odisha. For both these schemes, each beneficiary will be provided with a card. He said that the beneficiaries of the Vyas Vandana Yojana (for the elderly above 70 years) will get a separate special card.

Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, about 67.80 lakh families will benefit, while more than 35.84 lakh families will be benefited under the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana. Similarly, people above 70 years of age will be included in Ayushman Bharat Vyandana Yojana.

According to the information, the number of people above 70 years of age is 23,12,979. However, about 17 lakh of these people are associated with Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, so the remaining six lakh people will get benefits under the Gopbandhu Jan Arogya Yojana.

Overall, the total number of beneficiaries in the state will be around 3.52 crore. Medical assistance of up to five lakh rupees will be provided to each male beneficiary, while the female beneficiary will get medical assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh. If a family has beneficiaries above 70 years of age, then maximum medical expenditure per family will be Rs 15 lakh. Beneficiaries will be able to get medical assistance in more than 29,000 government and registered private hospitals in the country.
