Sunny, a youth resident of Umri village in Tarawa police station area, was detained by the police on charges of molestation. It is being told that he was having a love affair with a young woman from the village, due to which the girl’s family lodged a complaint against her. The youth was called by the police to the police station for questioning, where he was questioned for two consecutive days. The family alleges that the police beat him during this time, which led to his death. The police claim that the young man hung himself from the ventilation grill from the pajamas on the pretext of going to the bathroom in the morning and committed suicide.

Family allegations and opposition

The relatives of the deceased made serious allegations against the police, saying that Sunny was kept in the police station for three days and was beaten up, causing her death. After this, the police tried to disappear the body. When the local villagers came to know about this, they gathered outside the police station and created a ruckus. The angry mob blocked the streets and shouted slogans against the police administration. Many trains also vandalized.

SP told the whole matter

Giving information about the incident, the SP of Azamgarh said that the youth was detained on the complaint of a woman in the police station Tarawa. When he went to the toilet at around 6 am on Saturday morning, he hanged himself from the ventilation grill with his pajamas. The police immediately rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The SP further said that in this case, the young man was explained twice before, but he was repeatedly harassing the girl. A case was registered on the complaint of the woman, and the young man was to be challaned, but before that she committed suicide.

He said that the post -mortem of the dead body was done by a panel of three doctors, whose videography was also done. In the post -mortem report, the cause of death was described as ‘hanging’ and no bruises were found on the body. Seeing the seriousness of the incident, the Superintendent of Police suspended the police station in-charge, sub-inspector Bhim Singh and Constable Pramod Yadav with immediate effect. Apart from this, the District Magistrate has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into this matter.

MP Dharmendra Yadav made serious allegations against police

Azamgarh MP Dharmendra Yadav expressed deep grief over the incident and accused the police administration of negligence. He said that the death of a young man in police custody is suspicious and the administration should conduct a fair investigation into the matter. He demanded that strict action should be taken against the guilty policemen.
