Tamil film Legend Kamal Haasan’s new film ‘Thug Life’, considered to be the icon of Indian cinema, was released in theaters on Thursday. Along with South in 80s and 90s, this film of Kamal Haasan, who was very popular in Hindi as well, was PAN India.
It was also released in Hindi and other languages along with original Tamil version. But it is proving to be difficult for lotus to draw Hindi audiences again to theaters for their film. The situation is that on the first day, ‘Thug Life’ earned more collections than what ‘Thug Life’ earned in Hindi.
Kamal Haasan trying to appeal to Hindi audience
Everyone was surprised to see the comeback of Kamal Haasan from his Pan India film ‘Vikram’ in 2022. ‘Vikram’ did not get a huge release in theaters of North India due to the release deal signed on OTT in 4 weeks itself. But those who saw in ‘Vikram’ theaters in Hindi became a big fan of it. When most Hindi audiences saw this film on OTT, Kamal Haasan’s comeback became convinced. His Dhansu action avatar was very much discussed in the film.
The advantage of this was that the Hindi audience again remembered Kamal’s old Legacy and riding to the same tune, the public also gave a chance to his next Pan India film ‘Indian 2’. But this film turned out to be so bad that it did not get the audience again. Neither in Hindi nor in Original version. Now something similar is happening with Kamal’s new film ‘Thug Life’.
Box office collection of ‘Thug Life’
Kamal’s new film is made by Mani Ratnam, who is counted among the best filmmakers of India. The pair of both of them worked together 37 years ago and gave an iconic film like ‘Nayakan’. This film was sent to the Oscar from India. But this time the pair failed to impress the public and ‘thug life’ has not received good response from both the critics and the public. In such a situation, the direct impact has been on the film’s earnings.
According to Caiknilk, ‘Thug Life’ collected about Rs 17 crore at the box office on the first day. According to the film Pan India, this figure cannot be said very special. The worst condition of ‘Thug Life’ was in the Hindi version, in which the collection of the film could only reach close to Rs 10 lakh.
Kamal Haasan’s attempt failed once again
Tamil films on the PAN India formula, which have been popular for the last several years, have not been able to succeed in the same way as Telugu cinema has been done. Today, Allu Arjun starrer ‘Pushpa 2’, which has become the highest -grossing film in Hindi, has come from the Telugu industry. Films like Telugu to Bahubali, RRR, Hanuman, Kartikeya 2, Kalki 2898 and Salar have grossed in Hindi.
Films like KGF and Kantara from Kannada industry have recently earned fiercely in Hindi. While the Tamil industry is lagging far behind in this matter. There is only one Tamil film in the list of top 10 films that grossed the highest grossing in Hindi and it is also ‘2.0’ which came in 2018.
Recently, many big names of Tamil film industry have been seen mentioning that they can also give big pan India hits with the support of Hindi audience. Many Tamil filmmakers and artists are working keeping this in mind, one of which is Kamal Haasan. But seeing the fate of Kamal’s latest film ‘Thug Life’ at the box office, it seems that it is still far -fetched for Tamil stars to impress the Hindi audience.
The opening of ‘thug life’ is very weak
In Hindi, a big opening from ‘Thug Life’ was received by Kamal’s limited film ‘Vikram’, which did a business of about 25 lakhs on the first day. His own ‘Indian 2’ earned 1.2 crores in Hindi on the first day. Ajay Devgan’s ‘Red 2’ did more than the earning of ‘Thug Life’ in Hindi on the first day, while it was the 36th day of the film at the box office.
Ajay’s film did a business of 40 lakhs on the 36th day, which is four times more than 10 lakhs of ‘Thug Life’. Kamal Haasan has been counted among the best actors of India for five decades and no one has ever doubted his talent. But now it has to be seen whether he can succeed his industry again in Hindi as a star.
