There has been a big disclosure in the case of a college student who tried self -immolation in Balasore, Odisha. The victim’s father has claimed that her daughter was being pressurized to withdraw the complaint of sexual harassment. The victim is currently hospitalized in critical condition. Questions are being raised on the role of college administration in this entire episode.
It is alleged that Dilip Ghosh, Principal of Government Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College, told the student on the basis of the report of the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) that no concrete evidence has been found in her allegations. The principal also said that the college administration can take action against the student himself to make false allegations against the teacher.
A few minutes after hearing this, the student set herself on fire in the college campus. The victim’s father alleged that the move of self -immolation was taken due to pressure and insensitive attitude of the college administration. He said, “My daughter charge was described as baseless. He was mentally broken. So took this step to him. ”
On June 30, the victim complained of sexual harassment against Sameera Kumar Sahu, a college teacher. She was demonstrating in the college campus from July 2. Meanwhile, he also posted an appeal on the social media platform X (East Twitter), in which tagged all the responsibilities including the Chief Minister, Higher Education, MP, MLA.
The father of the victim student said that when he met the principal on this issue, he was assured by saying that do not worry, everything would be corrected. But the situation worsened day by day. According to the victim, the accused teacher had threatened her that if she did not cooperate, her educational record would be spoiled.
Fakir Mohan University Vice Chancellor Professor Santosh Tripathi said that if the college administration had taken immediate action on the allegations of the victim, the incident could have been postponed. He said, “I know that the principal is a good person, but he should have taken immediate action to resolve the issue. The victim waited for 11 days.”
