Bangladesh Chinmoy Das Bail Rejected Iskcon Kolkata Appealed to Mohammed Yunus Interim Government

Chinmoy Das Bail Rejected: A court in Chittagong, Bangladesh on Thursday (January 2, 2025) refused to grant bail to Samhita Sanatani Jagran Jot spokesperson and former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. After the cancellation of Chinmay Das’s bail plea, ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharaman Das has expressed concern and has demanded the interim government of Bangladesh to take action against those who are assaulting and threatening Chinmay Das’s lawyer.

He said that the only positive aspect of the hearing of the case was that Chinmoy Krishna Das was represented by lawyers in the court, which was not done in the previous hearing. Radharaman Das said that the health of Chinmoy Krishna Das is also said to be bad.

Chinmay Das was expected to be released in the new year

Radharaman Das has said that he was hopeful that Chinmay Das would be released on the occasion of New Year. Radharaman Das said, “We thought that he would be granted bail on the basis of his ill health and the fact that he was in jail for the last 40 days, but it is sad that he was not granted bail this time too.”

‘Bangladesh government should take action’

During the last hearing, Chinmay Das’s lawyer could not be present in the court. Actually his lawyers were attacked so he could not attend the hearing. Radharaman Das said that if any lawyer appearing for Chinmoy Krishna is threatened with beating, then the interim government of Bangladesh should take legal action in this matter.

What arguments did the government lawyer and Chinmay Das’s lawyer give?

During the hearing in the Chittagong court, the prosecution had told the court that this is a case of treason which carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment and they were opposing bail as the case was under investigation. The state has requested the court not to grant bail.

During the hearing, Chinmay Krishna Das’s lawyers said that the sedition case registered against Chinmay Das for insulting the flag is baseless. Suman Kumar Roy, head of the team of 11 lawyers who were cross-examining on behalf of Chinmoy Das, said, “First of all, the flag hoisted below the ISKCON flag in the video of the rally is actually a moon and stars flag. That is, it is not the flag of Bangladesh. Apart from this, no section of insult to the flag has been added in the case and the flag which has been accused of being insulted has been confiscated. Not in the list.”
