Bangladesh To Release 95 Indian fishermen: In the last few months, many Indian fishermen have been arrested by the Bangladesh authorities. The fishermen were arrested when they unknowingly crossed the International Maritime Boundary Line and entered Bangladeshi waters. Similarly, many Bangladeshi fishermen were also caught by the Indian authorities under similar circumstances, but the fishermen arrested by both the countries are being released.
The Government of India attaches utmost importance to the safety, security and welfare of Indian fishermen. To this end, the government has worked hard to ensure the release of our fishermen from the custody of Bangladesh. After this, both the countries are going to release the arrested fishermen on January 5, 2025. At the same time, 95 Indian fishermen and their 6 boats caught by Bangladesh will be released. Bangladesh authorities have been holding him for the last three months.
Bangladesh is ready to withdraw the case also
At the same time, Bangladeshi authorities have handed over 95 Indian fishermen to the Bangladesh Coast Guard, so that they can hand them over to the Indian Coast Guard on January 5. On the same day, 90 Bangladeshi fishermen will also be released under a reciprocal release and repatriation operation. This entire process will be completed at sea between the concerned Coast Guard officials. Not only this, Bangladesh has also decided to withdraw the cases against fishermen.
Steps taken keeping in mind the concerns of fishermen
The mutual exchange of fishermen and their vessels has been designed keeping in mind the livelihood concerns of the fishing communities of both the countries.
