Bangladesh hc on chinmoy Krishna das: The Bangladesh High Court, while hearing the bail plea of Chinmay Krishna Das associated with ISKCON and Sanatani Jagran Jot, has asked the government why they should not be given bail. The court has directed the government to respond within two weeks.
The bench of Justice Ataur Rahman and Justice Mohammad Ali Raza gave this order while hearing the case on Tuesday (04 February). The case came into the limelight when a case of insulting and treason was registered against Chinmay Krishna Das in Bangladesh.
What is the matter?
Chinmay Krishna Das used to manage Sri Pundarik Dham at Chittagong, Das was removed from ISKCON for violating organizational discipline. A case of treason was registered against Chinmay Krishna Das on 31 October 2023 for insulting the national flag. At the same time, he was arrested from Dhaka on 25 November 2023. On 26 November 2023, when he was taken to the Chittagong court, there was a clash between the police and his supporters after the bail was rejected, killing a lawyer.
India and Bangladesh’s response
The Government of India had expressed deep concern over the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das. There was also a demand for banning ISKCON in Bangladesh. Earlier, his bail plea has been rejected several times. Now the Bangladesh government will have to file its reply in two weeks, after which the next hearing will be held.
The case was registered against 18 people
Let me tell you that the matter came into the limelight when pictures of the saffron flag hoisting on the national flag went viral at a rally held in Chittagong. After this incident, political and social criticism in Bangladesh increased. A case was registered against 18 people including Chinmay Krishna Das, calling it a traitor.
