Mohammad Yunus’s interim government in Bangladesh has made serious allegations on India like drug supply, killing Bangladeshis along the border and violation of agreements between the two countries. A conference is going to be held between Bangladesh and India regarding the border with India, in which it will raise these issues. This is the 55th conference of the Director General Level between the two countries. This will include Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chaudhary, advisor to Home Affairs in the Yunus government, has said that Bangladesh will adopt a strict attitude in the BGB and BSF conference and put all the issues that he has problems with.
According to Dhaka Tribune, this four -day conference is going to be held in New Delhi on 17 February. He said in a press conference that this time our tone of talks with India will be different. He has accused the BSF of killings of unarmed Bangladeshi citizens on the border. He said that he would also discuss on stopping firing on the border and put pressure on India to stop the killings being carried out on the border to take effective steps for this so that it would be curbed.
Jahangir Alam Chaudhary has also alleged that India is doing a large amount of cross border drug trafficking. He said, ‘They are smuggling it in Bangladesh by constructing Phensedyl. They claim that it is made as medicine, but in fact it is drugs. Not only this, he also says that he will also discuss India’s move to fencing barbed wires on 150 yards of land near the zero line, because it is necessary to agree between the two countries for any kind of development on the border. He said that fencing is being done at 92 places on the border. However, work has been stopped after Bangladesh’s objection. Jahangir Chaudhary said that mutual acceptance between the two countries is necessary for any activity within 150 yards from the border and there is no scope for unilateral action for any side.
He said that if a mosque or temple is to be constructed under a development project, then the consent of both countries will be mandatory. Special emphasis will be laid on ensuring this consent in future. He said, ‘Special attention will be paid to measures to prevent border violations, illegal entry and infiltration. Also, priority will be given to prevent smuggling of illegal drugs such as fencidils, weapons, ammunition and explosives from India to Bangladesh.
Jahangir Alam Chaudhary also says that he will discuss equal sharing of river water under the treaty between the two countries. Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chaudhary said that all the ‘uneven treaties’ with India will be discussed during the tenure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. Jahangir Alam Chaudhary said that issues such as just partitions of rivers, implementation of water agreements and reopening of Rahimpur canal will also be discussed. He said that India’s industrial waste comes in Bangladesh through Agartala, which is a violation of the environmental agreement. Apart from this, there will also be a discussion on how to prevent false news being spread to increase tension between the two countries.
