Nahid Islam, advisor and student leader of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, has resigned from the Mohammad Yunus government amidst discussions to start his new political organization. Islam met Yunus in his office on Tuesday afternoon and handed him his resignation.

Islam wrote in his letter to Younus, ‘I should stand with the student population in the country in the interest of the nation and its people under the current circumstances. So I think I should resign.

Nahid Islam has taken this decision amid discussions by student leaders to start a new political organization. Nahid was included in the Government of Mohammad Yunus as an advisor to the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology last year.

It is being told that students who protested against Sheikh Hasina government are planning to form their new political party. On Wednesday, student leaders can start their new party in a program.

Islam will lead the party!

According to the information, the student leader and Nahid will lead the new Parta as the Islam convenor who fulfills important responsibility in the interim government. At the same time, he had made it clear recently that if he had to form a party to contest elections, he would form the party.

The Election Commission of Bangladesh said on Sunday that two deadlines have been fixed by the interim government for many major reforms inside the country. In the event of major reforms in December, preparations for general elections are going on on the basis of June 2026.

‘Elections will be held in Bangladesh soon’

According to the government news agency BSS, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin made this comment during a discussion with the district administration officials in the Cox Bazaar.

Naseer Uddin said that the interim government has fixed two times for the election till December or by June next year.

The report quoted him as saying, “The first goal of the Election Commission is to prepare an accurate voter list. There are 16 lakh dead voters. They need to be removed from the list.”

Mohammad Yunus assured BNP

Earlier this month, Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus had assured former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) that elections would be held by December.

Yunus took over as the interim government of Bangladesh on 8 August 2024, which took place three days after the removal of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government in the rebellion led by the anti -discrimination student movement.

Let us tell you that after the fiery demonstrations across the country under the leadership of Nahid Islam, the then PM Sheikh Hasina Sarkar was put in place. After this, on August 5, Sheikh Hasina left the country and took refuge in India after being demolished by her nearly 16 -year -old Awami League government after the students led by the students.
