The Ministry of External Affairs has completely rejected NATO General Secretary Mark Rute’s claim in which he said that after US President Trump put a tariff to buy Russia oil on India, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to President Vladimir Putin to understand his strategy on Ukraine.’ The Ministry described it as ‘completely baseless’.
Ministry statement
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Prime Minister Modi never had such a conversation with Putin and no such phone talks took place. The Ministry expected an important organization like NATO to follow more responsibility and accuracy while making public statements. The ministry emphasized that such speculation or thought that ‘such conversations’ were absolutely unacceptable and this could affect the image of the leadership of any country.
India’s energy policy
The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that India makes its energy import decisions keeping in mind the national interest and economic security. The ministry said that India will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure cheap and reliable energy for consumers and protect its national interests and economic security.
