The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a Special Journal Meeting (SGM) for the election of the new Joint Secretary. SGM will be held in Mumbai on 1 March.

The post of Joint Secretary has been vacant since Devjit Saikia selected as BCCI Secretary in place of Jai Shah last month. According to the Constitution of BCCI, the post will have to be filled within 45 days.

Devjit Saikia has been a joint secretary of BCCI from 2019 to 2024.

A SGM notice sent to the State Association BCCI sent a SGM notice to the State Association on Thursday (6 February) on behalf of Secretary Saikia. The notice states that the election will be held at 12 noon in the BCCI head quarter in Mumbai.

Usually, a 21 -day notice has to be given to call SGM and BCCI has followed the legal requirement.

Second SGM in less than two months This is the second SGM in less than two months. The last election was held on January 12, when the new Secretary (Saikia) and the new Treasurer (Prabhtej Singh Bhatia) were elected. Both were elected unopposed. There is no possibility of any match for the post of Joint Secretary. A consensus will be formed before filing nomination. A candidate from the western region is likely to get this post.

Devjit Saikia will become the secretary of BCCI Devjit Saikia was elected Secretary of BCCI on 12 January this year, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was elected treasurer. Both were elected unopposed in BCCI’s Special Journal Meeting (SGM) on Sunday. Apart from these two, no one else filled the nomination form.
