New Delhi. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has become a “golden egg hen” for BCCI as the vault of the world’s richest cricket board is continuously filling. This league is counted in the world’s most popular T20 league, its growing popularity has increased the BCCI’s earnings strongly. According to a report, in the financial year 2023-24, 59 percent of the total income of the Indian Cricket Board came from IPL only.

IPL is a franchise T20 tournament in which top cricketers from India and world participate. 10 teams participate in this competition, which started in 2007. According to a report by The Hindu Business Line, quoting Radification, BCCI earned an income of Rs 9,741.7 crore in the financial year 2023-24, of which income of Rs 5,761 crore was earned from IPL.

Business Independent Director Lloyd Mathius said, “BCCI discovered a golden egg chicken in 2007 – IPL which is now 100 percent of BCCI. This tournament is the best and media rights are constantly increasing. IPL also ensures that Ranji Trophy level player will get a chance to play. It will be a profitable with the growing popularity.”

BCCI income from non-IPL properties

According to the report, the sale of non-IPL media rights earned an income of Rs 361 crore, including broadcasting rights of international tournaments. According to Radification head Sandeep Goyal, the board has not yet used its full potential, as there are “very much possibilities” to increase the domestic tournament corporately, including the Ranji Trophy-India’s top domestic red-ball tournament.

Goyal said, “The BCCI has immense possibilities to correct the traditional format like Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, or CK Naidu Trophy corporately, which can increase non-IPL income. The board has a reserve of about ₹ 30,000 crore, which makes the interest of ₹ 1,000 crore permanently, but these incomes are not only a manner, but the media is not only a manner. The day income is expected to increase by 10-12 percent annually. ”
