A case of assault by a woman by a Rapido bike taxi driver has come to light in Jayanagar area of Bangalore. This incident is three days old i.e. Friday and now the police has started action after its video went viral.
According to the police, the woman complained to the driver about driving at a speed and carelessness. There was a debate between the two about this, which later turned into a quarrel. The video showed that the driver slapped the woman, causing her to fall to the ground.
A video of the incident was recorded by a passer -by, in which many people standing around are also seen. At first the woman was hesitating to complain, but later a complaint was lodged in the police station on the police persuasion.
On the other hand, the bike taxi has been banned from today in Karnataka. Against this, the Bike Taxi Association has written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and demanded the removal of the ban.
In the viral video, there is a dispute between the woman and the Rapido driver.
Jayanagar police is considering FIR lodged
Currently, NCR (non -cognizable report) has been filed in the case, but police say that in view of the viral video, the FIR is now being considered. Jayanagar police station is investigating the entire case.
Earlier in Bangalore, there was also an incident of misconduct and assault by Ola Auto Driver with a woman in September 2023. The driver was also arrested in that case.
Bike Taxi Association demands lifting of ban on bike taxi
The Namma Bike Taxi Association has written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, against the Karnataka government’s decision to impose a full ban on bike taxi since today (June 16). He has demanded immediate intervention from the government.
The move came on June 13 after the Karnataka High Court justified the government’s order in which bike taxi services like Rapido, Ola and Uber Moto were declared illegal. The next hearing of the case will be on 24 June.
According to the association, more than one lakh drivers across the state live by bike taxi, especially in Bengaluru. He said that “many of us are students, laborers, parents who have adopted the same work after Kovid. We work 10-12 hours in heat, rain and traffic so that the family can run.”
Riders reported in the letter that annual people in Bangalore ride 8 crore bikes and this is the chest and fastest option in areas where buses do not reach.
Appeal to make rules like Delhi, Rajasthan and Telangana
Bike riders have appealed to the government to make rules like Delhi, Rajasthan and Telangana instead of ban, which include points like license, insurance, training and security.
He also expressed concern for the passengers, who will now have difficulty in traffic. He has asked the government to communicate with the driver community to formulate an inclusive and balanced policy, which protects both passenger safety and employment.
Government of Karnataka decided to ban on 2 April
The Karnataka government had decided to ban bike taxi services on 2 April. The step was taken after the Karnataka High Court’s order stated that two -wheelers with private number plates cannot be used for commercial service, as there are no clear rules for this.
The court also said that till the state government does not fix the rules related to license, insurance and safety for bike taxi under Section 3 of the Motor Vehicle Act, their operations will be considered illegal. Also, the court had instructed to shut down all services in six weeks and make rules in three months.
