In response to a question asked by Rajya Sabha MP Kiran Chaudhary from Haryana regarding subsidy on electric vehicles, Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that the government has taken several important steps to promote electric vehicles. They told

The minister said that under this scheme, direct subsidy will be given to e-vehicle buyers, which will be claimed by OEMs later with the government. A allocation of Rs 3,679 crore has been made for E-2 W, E-3 W, E-Ambulances and E-Tecks and Rs 4,391 crore for the purchase of 14,028 e-Basis.

PLI Auto Scheme approved in September 2021

He said that in addition, the government has approved the PLI Auto scheme in September 2021 with a budget of Rs 25,938 crore. The scheme encourages electric vehicle manufacturers up to 13–18% and manufacturers of AAT components up to 8–13% incremental sale.

Kumaraswamy said that another PLI scheme worth Rs 18,100 crore was also approved in May 2021, aimed at domestic manufacturing of 50 GW ACC batteries. He said that the effectiveness of all these schemes is regularly monitored and reviewed from time to time.
