The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized Rahul Gandhi’s statement on Friday (July 18, 2025), in which the Congress leader accused the government of taking malicious and politics -motivated action against his brother -in -law.

The BJP criticized Rahul Gandhi, saying that the Congress leader’s remarks show that his party still believes in the ’emergency mindset’ and does not care about the judicial process.

Chargesheet on Robert Vadra in money laundering case

The BJP has made this comment at a time when a charge sheet has been filed against Robert Vadra in a money laundering case related to a land deal in Shikohpur, Haryana by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The former Congress president on Friday called it malicious and politics -inspired action and said that he was standing with his brother -in -law and his family.

BJP national spokesperson Tuheen Sinha alleged that Gandhi has made it clear from his remarks that he was fully aware of his brother -in -law’s ‘black exploits’ and may have been involved in it. Sinha also criticized Gandhi for a recent remarks against Assam Chief Minister Himant Bishwa Sharma and accused him of ‘threatening’ to arrest an existing Chief Minister.

‘Still emergency mentality’

Tuheen Sinha said at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters here, “The kind of statement he made in Robert Vadra’s case and recently about Assam Chief Minister Himant Vishwa Sharma shows that the Congress has nothing to do with the judicial process or the process of investigation.”

Referring to the emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government on 25 June 1975, Sinha said, “The Congress still believes in the emergency mindset and wants to manipulate the same in the country, which she was doing 50 years ago.”

He said that Sharma is an elected Chief Minister of Assam and there is no allegation against him. The BJP leader asked Gandhi, ‘Will you pick up anyone and put them in jail?’ Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a meeting of party workers in Chaigaon, Assam on Wednesday, claimed that Chief Minister Himant Bishwa Sharma considers himself a ‘king’, but the people of the state will take them to jail for corruption.
