The Calcutta High Court on Monday imposed an interim stay on the recently released notification on the other Backward Classes (OBC) list of the West Bengal government till 31 July.

The bench of Justice Tapbrata Chakraborty and Justice Raja Shekhar Mantha passed the interim order, hearing petitions challenging the state classification of communities under the OBC category.

The bench said that necessary steps should be taken in relation to 66 communities of OBC. The new notification has 140 communities list. However, OBC certificates issued before 2010 under the 1993 law are valid for employment and admission.
