The marriage of four minor girls in Rudraprayag district was stopped due to the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand. These four girls from Uchola village of Jakholi tehsil were scheduled to get married next month. The Child Development Department received a complaint about the marriage of these girls through the Child Helpline.

After this, a team of Child Development Department reached Uchola village. The team explained to the families of these girls about the ill effects of child marriage and legal provisions. After this, the family decided to stop the girls’ marriage.

Out of these four girls, two girls aged 15 and 17 were from the same family. Under the recently implemented UCC in Uttarakhand, the minimum marriage age for girls has been fixed at 18 years.
