The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed closure reports in 174 cases due to lack of evidence in 2024, the highest number. Earlier, only 30-60 cases were closed every year, like 62 in 2023 and 32 in 2022.

Prominent cases closed include NCP leader Praful Patel facing irregularities in aircraft leasing (2017), former Environment Minister Jayanti Natarajan facing forest land diversion in Jharkhand (2017), NDTV founders accused of causing loss of ₹48 crore (2017), and IPL Betting issue in 2019 (2022) included.

CBI has recently given instructions to expeditiously dispose of pending cases and close files, so that the investigation process can be expedited.
