In Telangana, senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) RS Praveen Kumar has targeted the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the plight of farmers and their problems. He said that both parties are ignoring the interests of the farmers and are increasing their difficulties. In Bayyaram Mandal of Mehboobabad district, fake maize seeds have caused heavy damage to farmers, which Praveen Kumar blamed the government’s negligence.
Naini Venkanna, a farmer of Gandhampalli village of Santulal Podu Tanda in Mehboobabad, started farming by renting seven acres of land, but after 45 days his maize plants started dying one by one. Venkanna said that he invested one and a half lakh rupees by pledging his wife’s jewelry, but fake seeds turned their hard work. He said, ‘If we do not get justice, then we husband and wife will give life by consuming poison in this field.’
Congress has cheated farmers
Praveen Kumar, while taking a tough stand on this matter, said, ‘The Congress government has cheated the farmers. Due to 30 quintals of yield in one acre, farmers are losing Rs 3,500, because the weight of rice is being reduced by four kg at procurement centers. Apart from this, Rs 46 per quintal wage fee is being charged. Overall, farmers are facing a loss of Rs 4,880 per acre.
The lack of urea during the Maktal and Hanmakonda district of Narayanpet district has also increased the difficulties of farmers. Farmers are standing in queue for hours and getting only two sacks of urea. Praveen Kumar alleged that Congress workers are being given priority in urea, while poor farmers stand in line.
Farmers get appropriate compensation
He has demanded from the government that strict action should be taken on shops selling fake seeds and farmers should be given proper compensation. Also, appealed to smooth the supply of urea and protect the interests of the farmers. Praveen Kumar said that BRS is standing with farmers and will support them in every battle.
