BSF BGB meeting in Delhi Over Border Situation First Meeting after Sheikh Hasina Govt Fall

India bangladesh meeting over border: Director General level talks between Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) started in Delhi on Tuesday (February 18). In this dialogue, there is a possibility of obstructing BSF fencing work and issues related to attacks on BSF personnel and citizens by Bangladeshi mischievous elements.

This is the first top level meeting between the two Border Security Forces after Sheikh Hasina left the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh in August last year. The 55th Director level Border Coordination Conference between the two security forces started at BSF Headquarters at Lodhi Road, where BGB chief Major General Mohammad Ashrafajjam Siddiqui was welcomed.

The conversation was held in Dhaka last year

The Bangladeshi delegation reached India on Monday (17 February) and was welcomed by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The BSF said in a statement last week that the conference is being organized to discuss border issues and to improve coordination between Border Security Forces. The final edition of these talks was held in Dhaka in March last year.

Was upset in fencing the border

The total 4,096 km long India-Bangladesh border extends to five states-West Bengal (2,217 km), Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Assam (262 km) and Mizoram (318 km). The relations between the two countries were tension when the two countries summoned each other’s High Commissioners in December last year on the border fence and some other issues.

Government had expressed hope of cooperation in the budget session

The government informed Parliament in the budget session that India has asked Bangladesh that it expects a cooperative stance from the neighboring country to deal with the crimes crossing the border and includes a case of fencing on the border. The dialogue will end on 20 February with signing the ‘Joint Documents’ of the two sides’.
