India changed the National Sports Policy after 24 years.
The Government of India has approved the new ‘National Sports Policy 2025’. Through which the country will be strengthened in the global sports market. This will strengthen India’s sports infrastructure and the country will be able to present its claim for hosting 2036 Olympics.
The cabinet approved the policy on Tuesday under the chairmanship of PM Narendra Modi. It will replace the previous National Sports Policy of 2001.
The game will get a boost at the ground level After approval from the cabinet, Sports Minister Mansukhlal Mandavia wrote on the social media platform X, ‘The new policy will boost sports culture in India at the ground level. Whose focus will be on athlete development and infrastructure to increase.
The policy was approved in collaboration with the Union Ministry, NITI Aayog, State Governments, National Sports Federations (NSF), athletes, Domain Experts and Public Stecholds.
Traditional sports such as Malkhambh under NSP will be promoted.
Policy stands on 5 strong grounds
Aadhaar-1: Strengthen on Global Sports Stage
- To bring the sports program to the villages and strengthen them. So that children are identified at the initial level and prepared on a large platform.
- Promoting competition and small league so that sports infrastructure is promoted both in villages and cities.
- Creating world class system for training, coaching and athlete support.
- Increasing the capacity of the National Sports Federation.
- Developing technology for sports science, medicine and athlete programs.
- Developing sports coaches, technical official, referee and support staff.
Aadhaar-2: Sports for Economy Development
- Promoting sports tourism and organizing large international events in India.
- Strengthening sports manufacturing systems and promoting sports sector startups.
- Private sector stake in sports events under Public-Private Partnership (PPP), so that there is not much pressure on the government.
Aadhaar-3: Sports for Social Development
- Increasing the share of economically weaker sections, women, tribal society and disabled.
- Increasing traditional and domestic games.
- Giving sports as a career option in education, so that youth sports are also seen as a career.
Women’s participation in sports will be increased under the National Sports Policy.
Aadhaar-4: Sports for people’s development
More and more people should be connected to sports by running campaigns across the country. There will also be community events under this. Fitness programs will be started in schools, colleges and offices.
Aadhaar-5: Adding sports with education
- Sports will be required in all schools.
- Special training will be given to the teachers of physical education, so that awareness of sports is developed in schools.
