A lieutenant colonel of the Indian Army allegedly attacked SpiceJet’s ground staff during a heated debate at Srinagar Airport over additional cabin baggage, causing serious injuries including spinal fracture and fracture in the jaw. The army officer who attacked the employee has been identified as Lieutenant Colonel Ritesh Kumar Singh, who is currently posted at the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) of Gulmarg. According to sources, the passenger (army officer) was boarding to travel on the SpiceJet’s flight number 24D on July 26 at 6:10 pm.

At the same time, he started trying to forcibly enter the aerobridge without completing the necessary boarding formalities. Has stopped them and took them back to the gate. “
What did the airline say in the official statement,
According to SpiceJet’s official statement, the situation at the boarding gate soon became violent. An airline spokesman said, “The passenger made a serious attack on our employees using punches, kicks and even the stand standing in the queue.
The spokesperson said, “Medical teams at the airport did first aid before taking the injured employees to the hospital. One employee was reported to have spinal fracture, while the other suffered injuries on the jaw and face and bleeding from the nose and mouth.”
Airline handed over CCTV footage to police
The airline has obtained CCTV footage from the airport officials and handed it over to the police under the investigation. An FIR has been formally registered against the officer in the local police.
Airline wrote a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation
On the other hand, SpiceJet has also written a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, calling this attack fatal and requested for appropriate action. “We strongly condemn any violent act against our employees and will take the matter to complete legal and regulatory inquiry against our employees. The airport security group (ASG) employees immediately intervened and took control of the situation without any obstruction of flight operations. The flight left on time.”
The response has not yet come from the army
However, there has been no official response from the army about this matter so far. The local police is investigating the case intensively.
Two FIRs lodged in Badgam police station
According to sources, two FIRs have been lodged in the police station Badgam in connection with the incident, one FIR number is 204/2025 which has been registered against Ritesh Kumar Singh under Section 115 (20, 131, 351 (2), 126920 of BNS and the second FIR number 205/2025 Section 191 (2), 131, 115 (2) has been filed against Baid Singh.
