Indian railway: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested six people, including two senior Divisional Personal Officer (IRPS) officers from Vadodara, Western Railway, disclosing the scam in the railway departmental examination. They are accused that they had assured the candidates to take bribe and pass the examination.
What is the whole matter?
The CBI registered the case on 18 February 2025. Investigation revealed that Vadodara, Senior Divisional Personal Officer of Western Railway (IRPS: 2008), Divisional Personal Officer (IRPS: 2018), Deputy Chief Commercial Manager (Mumbai), Deputy Station Superintendent, A Nursing Superintendent (Ahmedabad), and Private persons were involved in this scam.
It is alleged that the Divisional Personal Officer had asked the Deputy Chief Commercial Manager to make a list of 10 candidates who will be ready to pay bribe to pass the exam. After this, the Deputy Chief Commercial Manager took a bribe from these candidates through Vadodara’s deputy station superintendent and a private person.
CBI raids and recovery
On this matter, the CBI raided 11 locations including Vadodara, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, out of which 650 grams of gold, Rs 5 lakh cash, several electronic equipment and objectionable documents were recovered. The CBI also came to know that a nursing superintendent had bought 650 grams of gold by paying about 57 lakh rupees, which he was going to give to the Senior Divisional Personal Officer of Vadodara.
It was also alleged that the Deputy Chief Commercial Manager of Western Railway had approached a jewelers from Vadodara to buy about 400 grams of gold instead of cash without making any invoice. In lieu of the 650 grams of gold recovered by the CBI, about 57 lakh rupees cash was paid.
