CBI Busts International Cyber ​​Fraud Gang Under Operation Chakra-IV Accused of Duping German Citizens Ann

CBI Operation Chakra-IV: The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) has busted the international cyber fraud gang under Operation Chakra-IV. The gang is accused of cheating the citizens of Germany. In collaboration with German agencies, the CBI has taken major action against this gang.

The CBI has registered a case against Rahul Shaw, Shubham Sharma, Rajiv Budhiraja and other unknown accused on 12 February 2025. These have been booked under Section 120-B, 420, 467, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to fraud, forgery and cyber crime and Section 66D of IT Act.

How was cyber fraud done?
The gang targeted German citizens during 2021-2022. These people used to take remote access to the computer and bank accounts of the victims in the name of giving Tech Support. Then they used to lure them that their bank account is hacked and money is in danger. Through the intimidation of 646,032 euros (about Rs 5.75 crore), they used to get transferred to their wallet through cryptocurrency.

CBI raids and arrests
CBI raided Delhi, Kolkata and Siliguri from 14 to 17 February 2025. Many important digital and documentary evidence was found during this period. The main accused Rahul Shaw was arrested from Siliguri. He is being produced in Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. According to the information, 7 mobile phones, 1 laptop and several objectionable documents were seized from his house.

Gang operations and CBI action
Investigation revealed that the gang was running fake call centers in Siliguri’s webel IT Park, Matigada, Darjeeling. CBI closed this call center. 24 hard disks and other digital evidence were seized during the action. The CBI is now examining other gang members and money networks. The assistance of German agencies and Interpol is being taken in this case.

What is Operation Chakra-IV?
The CBI has started Operation Chakra-IV to capture international cyber criminals and eliminate cyber gangs. This campaign is being run in collaboration with police agencies of many countries. Its goal is to prevent cross -border cyber crime and punish the culprits.
