Every year about 45 thousand Indians go to America under H1B visa.
The central government has become alert regarding the protests against Indian H-1B visa holders in America. According to the Times of India report, the Ministry of External Affairs, IT Ministry and Commerce Department are monitoring the status of Indian professionals working legally in America.
A government source said that there should not be a situation where our Indian professionals face problems in living in America. The government is worried about this. The IT Ministry is also taking feedback from big software companies to understand the situation. The IT Ministry has asked the companies what is the situation regarding this visa on the ground.
The government source said that we do not want any problems to arise in the legal framework between India and America due to any external reason. This should not happen from America also.
In fact, America’s newly elected President Donald has been against this visa. His supporting industrialist Musk also said on Monday that H1B visa is about to end. In response to a post, he said that this program should be improved by increasing the minimum salary and maintenance. However, Trump has also made statements in support of visas on several occasions.
H-1B is a non-immigrant visa, under which American companies are allowed to hire foreign professionals. Under this, about 45 thousand Indians go to America every year.
H-1B visa is usually issued to those people who are associated with a particular profession (such as IT professionals, architecture, health professionals, etc.).
Central government does not want to see restrictions in visa policy
The government is also keeping an eye on how the US visa policy for IT and management professionals may change after Donald Trump returns to the White House. The source said that we do not want to see further restrictions in this policy.
Apart from this, the central government also wants to see how much interest multi-national companies are showing in the appointment of Indian professionals. For this, how many Global Capability Centers (GCC) are the companies setting up in India? There are currently more than 1800 GCCs in India. To have a better grip on the situation, the Ministry of External Affairs is taking updates from the Indian Mission in the US.
Opinion of Trump supporters divided on visas
- The opinion of Trump supporters regarding H-1B visa is also divided among themselves. Trump supporters like Laura Loomer, Matt Gaetz and Ann Coulter are openly opposing this visa. These people say that through H-1B visa, foreign people will get jobs in America and American people will lose their jobs.
- On the other hand, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who will soon handle the Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE) in the Trump government, have supported the H-1B visa. They say that to strengthen America economically, the world’s top people should be hired.
What is H-1B visa?
H-1B is a non-immigrant visa, under which American companies are allowed to hire foreign professionals for positions requiring special technical skills. Through this visa, companies in the technology sector recruit thousands of workers from countries like India and China every year.
H-1B visa is usually issued to those people who are associated with a particular profession (such as IT professionals, architecture, health professionals, etc.). Only those professionals who are offered a job can get this visa. It completely depends on the employer. That means, if the employer fires you and another employer does not offer you, the visa will expire.
Only Indians get 7 out of 10 H-1B visas.
Let us tell you that America gives H-1B visas to 65,000 people every year. Its time limit is for 3 years. If needed, it can be extended for another 3 years. Indian people get 7 out of 10 H-1B visas in America. After this comes China, Canada and South Korea.
